About the Artist
Aubrey Beardsley (1872–1898) was an English illustrator and one of the most distinctive figures of the Art Nouveau and Decadent movements. Known for his provocative black-ink illustrations, Beardsley combined elegant flowing lines, Japanese woodblock influences, mythology, fashion, and dark humor into a style that remains instantly recognizable.
Despite a career lasting only a few years, his work had a lasting influence on illustration, poster design, Art Nouveau, and alternative visual culture.
