Gustave Doré was a French artist, illustrator, sculptor, and master printmaker
best known for his dramatic wood engravings.
The Fourth Horseman, Death on the Pale Horse is connected to
Revelation 6:8, in which Death rides forth as the fourth horseman of the
Apocalypse, followed by Hell.
Doré’s stark composition and monumental imagery make this one of his most
haunting interpretations of biblical apocalypse and mortality.
