About Harry Clarke

Irish artist and illustrator Harry Clarke became one of the defining figures of early twentieth-century gothic illustration. Influenced by Art Nouveau, Symbolism, and the Arts and Crafts movement, Clarke developed an intensely detailed visual language perfectly suited to the strange and macabre stories of Edgar Allan Poe.

His illustrations for Tales of Mystery and Imagination remain among his best-known works and helped establish Clarke as one of the great masters of dark illustration.
