ACTING OUT Cleveland breaks down stigmas and creates awareness of mental illness and addiction through a series of public events and panel discussions.

This past weekend, Sept. 13-16, 2017, various venues around the city of Cleveland hosted the event. Dark Art & Craft had a chance to attend the Acting Out Art Exhibition, located at the Derek Hess Gallery at 1300 W. 78 St., last Friday which featured over 30 artists affected by mental health and addiction. The work displayed was highly varied in artistic approach and distinctly introspective in feeling. Within are some images from last Friday's exhibit which highlight the complexities and talent that this event assembled.

"Acting Out! Fest is the brainchild of artist Derek Hess and his long-time business agent, Martin Geramita, along with Cleveland marketing/events guru, Angie Hetrick. Breaking down the stigmas that surround mental illness and addiction is a matter that’s especially important to Hess, whose struggles with bipolar disorder and substance abuse are not only well known, they’re integral subjects to his emotionally charged artwork." - actingoutcle.com
