Zdzisław Beksiński was a master Polish artist and painter working in the Surreal and Dark Art forms. Beksiński created in what he would often call either a 'Baroque' or a 'Gothic' style, though strains of a dark surrealism could be often seen. In his best-known period, Beksiński created dark images of an ominous post-apocalyptic world.
These are highly detailed paintings with dark imagery of human forms, alien creatures and monstrous skeletal structures. In his own opinion he deemed his work optimistic and at times even humorous. Many of the landscapes and settings feature death, time and decay as common themes. Many of Beksiński's works are misidentified as he refused to provide titles for any of his drawings or paintings.
