English-born American painter and Artist Thomas Cole created epic landscapes and dark dramatic historical scenes.
Thomas Cole is considered one of the most important 19th-century American painters and founding member of the Hudson River School. Cole depicted the American wilderness and his other subjects as sprawling monumental scenes containing a deep respect for nature and a firm understanding of death. While noticeably beautiful in presentation Cole's artwork is also thick with narrative and skilled brushwork.
Please note: The painter died in 1848, so his work is in the public domain in its country of origin and other countries and areas where the copyright term is the author's life plus 100 years or less.
