The Surrealist Works of Justyna Koziczak
Justyna Koziczak is a painter and ceramics maker based in Wroclaw, Poland. After completing her Master's degree in conservation of ceramics and glass she devoted herself to painting.
Her works are dream-like compositions such as portraits, landscapes or interior scenes. Justyna makes her paintings mostly in a traditional oil on canvas technique but she also developed her own technique in which she paints with fire on metal.
The topic of Justyna's works is a confrontation of a human being with strange, mysterious creatures, which represent fears and challenges modern society needs to confront. In her paintings, she attempts to tell a story about all of us – people who struggle, lose and find hope and faith, facing the inevitability of death. All of these works are kind of a journey into a world, where not all that is gloomy and sinister must be bad, not all that is beautiful and fine must be good.
In her most recent works, Justyna started experimenting with colour and light, creating almost abstract yet very detailed compositions created by expressive brushstrokes. These works represent “duality of life” as a perpetually twisted bitterness and sweetness blending together, like the light and shadow on Justyna's paintings.
