Since I was a child, in the 70s, I have been haunted by hellish nightmares where my Lisbon is a world of shadows from a nuclear Apocalypse - caused by Man to himself. These infected dreams - now also with São Paulo, Brazil, where I spent 16 years of my drifted life - persist until this very day, but they are so vivid that I feel as if I have been in that forgotten future before.

On ghostly Avenida Paulista @avpaulista in the once megalopolis of São Paulo, a lone car glides through the concrete canyon, passing between the Great Missiles Gate, on which is inscribed Alpha (The Beginning) on the left and Omega (The End) on the right. Its buildings are devoured by sinister ducts that look like metal roots from an apocalyptic industrial nightmare. Earth claimed its place back to Man. In the foreground shadows and in the upper left corner, a man standing on a balcony watches the car down below on the ravaged avenue, escaping to the far Light.

My art reflects on the contemporary situation of the planet. When I recreate an entire landscape reshaped by the occurrence of a catastrophic Nuclear War, or Climate Change doomsday events, I show, or at least I try to show, in the middle of all this nightmare, that the world where we live is, even with all the misfortunes that haunt it, a planet with beautiful things where one can live. Where one can see the sky. Where the sea is blue. Where the plants are green. Where the Sun shines. Where one can breathe. For the time being.

There are only two hypotheses: Either men destroy all nuclear weapons or the bombs destroy Humankind.
