Nicola Samorì creates works of dark beauty and baroque-influenced drama. His paintings are gouged, distorted, melted, skinned and destroyed. This act of destruction is so deliberate and contrasting to the works of painterly skill beneath that it can almost be seen as violent. Samori’s methodology is one that intertwines both destruction and baroque (even romantic) style paintings. Samori takes the attentive detail of his paintings which have the historical weight of past traditional styles and creates something completely different. Even the destruction has a sense of beauty and composition. It's as if the Samori is asking, why abandon past technique and art when you can destroy and re-envision it as you want?
